Operations Manual

CONCERT BAND AFFAIRS 
(chair appointed by the president – selected from the membership of the committee)

Duties of chair:

1. Serve as a liaison to the Executive Secretary of the Iowa High School Music
Association and discuss any issues dealing with the State Solo/Ensemble Contest or the State Large Group Contest.
3. The Concert Band Affairs Committee chair will schedule and prepare an agenda for at least two (2) meetings of the IBA Concert Band Affairs committee to be held in conjunction with the Iowa Music Educators Association Conference/All-State Music Festival in November and the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in May. A third working meeting of the Concert Band Affairs Committee is to be held in February (recommended) at the Iowa High School Music Association office in Boone with the Executive Secretary, if available. 

4. Help develop ideas and concepts that will benefit instrumental music education in the area of concert band.

6. Share ideas with the current IBA president-elect for topics/clinics that would be beneficial to concert band directors at the IBA Conference.
7. Attend all IBA business meetings and submit a report.

CONCERT BAND AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

I. The Concert Band Affairs Committee serves the Iowa Bandmasters Association membership and Executive Board in four specific ways:
A. The Concert Band Affairs Committee deals with and discusses specific issues in the areas of Large Group, Solo and Ensemble, and the All-State Festivals;

B. The Concert Band Affairs Committee serves as a liaison to the Executive Secretary of the Iowa High School Music Association, the All-State Festival Chair(s) of the Iowa Music Educators Association, and the Executive Board of the Iowa Music Educators Association.
C. The Concert Band Affairs Committee solicits input from the IBA Membership in order to develop ideas and concepts that will benefit and further promote instrumental music education in the area of the concert band idiom;

D. The Concert Band Affairs Committee will monitor the activity of and membership to the Prescribed Music List Review Committee. Members of the committee are appointed by the President of IBA and adhere to a three year term with a second term at the discretion of the Executive Secretary of the Iowa High School Music Association. Membership to the Committee shall consist of a representative from each IHSMA classification of 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A, a current college or university director, a member/liaison of the Concert Band Affairs committee, and Dr. Myron Welch, committee member emeritus. The Concert Band Affairs representative to the committee shall serve as representative to the committee within his or her tenure as a member of Concert Band Affairs Committee.
II. The Concert Band Affairs committee consists of a representative from each of the six districts of IBA (NCIBA, NEIBA, NWIBA, SCIBA, SEIBA, SWIBA) to serve a three-year term with a second successive term at the discretion of the district membership. The committee chair shall be appointed by the President of IBA.
IV. The Concert Band Affairs Committee will share ideas with the current IBA president-elect for topics/clinics that would be beneficial to concert band directors at the IBA Conference.
