Guy Blair recently retired after serving as the Director of Bands at Pella High School for 32 years. During these thirty-two years at Pella, Mr. Blair’s bands earned a reputation of excellence. Bands under Mr. Blair’s direction received consistently high ratings at state and regional festivals and have represented Iowa in prestigious venues throughout the nation. The “Marching Dutch” are recognized as one of Iowa’s top marching bands and have appeared in the Citrus Bowl Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, and the Tournament of Roses Parade. Guy is the recipient of the Karl King Award (Active) from the Iowa Bandmasters Association, the Distinguished Service Award from the Iowa Music Educators Association, and was recently inducted into the Pella “Teacher Hall of Fame.” Guy has served as state president or chair of the Iowa Bandmasters Association, the Iowa Music Educators Association, the Iowa Jazz Championships, the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education, and the Iowa unit of the International Association of Jazz Educators. Guy maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator and has recently accepted a position as the Iowa Sales Representative for Bob Rogers Travel Company.
