Chairperson: Chris Crandell

Event Date: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Indianola High School (map)

Registration Deadline: Monday, December 7, 2009

Event Information:

  1. The purpose of the Jack Oatts Honor Jazz Bands is to offer an opportunity for the outstanding high school jazz musicians in Central Iowa to perform together and work with a director who is highly respected in the jazz education field.

  2. There will be two Honor Jazz Bands which will be operated on a one day honor band-type basis; a 9th-10th and a 11th-12th grade band.

  3. The event is intended to be a strong educational and non-competitive performance experience. The day will be run like a typical honor band situation with a full day of rehearsal and a performance in the evening.   This is a wonderful opportunity for students to play jazz with their contemporaries from other schools in the area.

  4. EXAMPLE: 9th-10th Grade Honor Jazz Band. Directors will submit names of their two or three top 9th-10th grade students to the CJC. The CJC will assign parts to these students. Music will be selected and sent to the students. The students will prepare 3-4 songs to rehearse for one solid school day with a guest conductor/clinician and then perform on a concert that evening. The same procedure will be used for the 11th-12th Band.

  5. There will be a $25.00 entry fee charged for each participant.
